NYU Langone Medical Center

Where ordinary doesn’t exist

At NYU Langone Medical Center, we don’t believe there’s any such thing as an ordinary day. As one of the most respected academic research institutions in the country, we believe every day is a chance to learn something important. For nurses, this means taking an active role in innovating healthcare by questioning, challenging, and - most importantly - seeking to understand every procedure they perform. This emphasis on learning is part of our commitment to constant improvement. Since we are firm believers that healthcare decisions should be made as close to the bedside as possible, the key to our success is ensuring that our nurses continue to develop professionally while increasing their knowledge and clinical expertise.

New graduates of baccalaureate nursing programs are considered for hire on most clinical units. All new graduates join the Nurse Residency Program that provides an intensive, mentored, clinical work experience during the first year of practice. Expert nurses facilitate the new graduate’s development with special emphasis on critical thinking skills, leadership abilities, communication skills, research-based practice, patient safety, and professional career development.

NYU offers outstanding continuing opportunities for nurses seeking to advance their careers. Through orientations, preceptorships, mentoring and education, we ensure that at NYU, learning is a way of life. As nurses at all levels of experience develop in their careers, advancement is rewarded based on NYU’s unique RN Clinical Ladder - a system that bases promotions at the bedside on the strength of clinical expertise and critical thinking.

This extraordinary focus on learning carries over into the benefits we provide our nursing staff. After six months of full-time employment, tuition remission of 24 credits a year towards nursing degrees is available at New York University’s Division of Nursing; reimbursement of $5000 per year towards nursing degrees at other institutions is also provided (Federal regulations requiring taxation of education benefits apply to both tuition remission and tuition reimbursement).

At NYU Langone Medical Center, we treat nurses with the respect they deserve as invaluable members of the healthcare continuum. In short, it’s a nursing career that transcends the ordinary.
