Job Description:

The Transition Nurse Resident on the NICCU (Newborn and Infant Critical Care Unit (NICCU) is an exciting opportunity for the experienced nurse to transition to a NICU Nurse. The Transition Residency, ranging from 12 weeks to 16 weeks depending on the area of specialty, includes competency-driven clinical immersion and curriculum, as well as formal mentoring and debriefing. The Newborn and Infant Critical Care Unit (NICCU) staff provides care for critically ill newborns and infants that are born at other hospitals and transported to Children's Hospital Los Angeles. The majority of infants transferred here are in need of immediate medical or surgical intervention. These infants require intensive nursing care. Some examples of the children we see, include: Newborns and infants with surgical emergencies Medical and surgical conditions associated with complications of extreme prematurity Persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn requiring complex cardiopulmonary management and possibly extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) Preterm and term neonates with congenital heart disease, often having multiple other congenital anomalies A host of general pediatric surgical and surgical subspecialty conditions affecting newborns. Each transition RN receives an individualized learning plan for competency acquisition based on a performance gap analysis process. With the supervision of a preceptor you will conduct patient assessments, participates in the development of the plan of care, implements and evaluate care according to patient specific age and/or developmental needs as outlined below. You will collaborates with other health care team, as guided by their preceptor, members in the delivery of care while consistently demonstrating commitment to a patient and family focused model of care. Minimum Education/Training Required: Bachelor degree with BSN or MSN preferred Minimum Experience Required: 1 year as a Registered Nurse in an ICU setting. License, Registration or Certification Required: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. BLS, PALS and NRP required.
