 Our Hospital:
Children's Hospital Central California cares for ill and injured children from California's expansive San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada Mountains and Central Coast. Our primary service area is a 60,000 square-mile region, the largest of any children's hospital in the nation. Founded in 1952 by five visionary nurses as a 42-bed hospital with a staff of 118 physicians, Children's has grown into a 256-bed pediatric medical center including a 65 bed Level III NICU, 28 bed PICU, and a Level II Trauma designation on a 50-acre campus. We now have more than 500 doctors practicing in 48 pediatric subspecialties with clinics and services throughout the state. We have just been awarded Magnet designation which recognizes health care organizations that provide the very best in nursing care. We are now only the 4th hospital in California and the 7th Children’s Hospital in the US to receive this prestigious award. Less than 1% of all hospitals in the US currently have this status. Additionally, we have identified several key areas within the hospital as becoming Centers of Excellence, including Cardiology, Inpatient Rehab, and NICU. Our Location: Children's Hospital Central California is located on the bluffs overlooking the San Joaquin River just north of Fresno, California. Set against the backdrop of the magnificent Sierra Nevada Mountains, Fresno is an emerging metropolis and one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. The population of Fresno County, now nearly 900,000, represents a rich, cultural mix of more than 90 different nationalities. The region is host to three national parks including Yosemite, and is a short 3 hour drive to Los Angeles, San Francisco, the Pacific Ocean, Sacramento, and more!
