St. Vincent’s East St. Vincent’s East (SVE), formerly Medical Center East, is one of five facilities that make up the St. Vincent’s Health System. Part of Ascension Health, the largest non-profit and Catholic-owned health organization in the country, SVE provides a special brand of high-touch, high-tech quality care to people throughout the Eastern Birmingham communities. Its cancer and cardiovascular programs have received national recognition. In 2003, it was the only hospital in Alabama to receive the “Excellence in Healthcare Quality” award for Acute Myocardial Infarction from the Alabama Quality Assurance Foundation.
