Every hospital in the area is looking for employees. They need office personnel, physical and occupational therapists, orderlies and more.
A search through the help-wanted ads on the Web sites of Willis-Knighton Health System and LSU Health Sciences Center reveals there are more than 100 openings.

Minden Medical ranks 14th of 4,400 in the nation

MINDEN — At a time when the nation’s health care system is forefront in a debate, a local hospital has gained high marks from its customers — the patients — and at the same time earned a ranking unmatched in Louisiana.
The federal government’s Web site, Hospital Compare, has placed Minden Medical Center in the top 1 percent in the country by listing it as 14th in the nation in an evaluation of its quality of care. No other hospitals in Louisiana are on the list; the closest is in Oklahoma.

Nursing Restriction Called Unconstitutional

NEW ORLEANS (CN) - Despite a nationwide shortage of 126,000 nurses that has hospitals and states recruiting nurses overseas, Louisiana has barred noncitizens from being licensed as practical nurses there - a restriction that a South African nurse, already licensed in Texas, challenges as unconstitutional.

Loyola’s School of Nursing to offer state’s first Doctor of Nursing Practice program

Since the initial enrollment of nursing students at Loyola University New Orleans in 1979, the School of Nursing has mounted innovative programs in nursing, keeping pace with dramatic changes in nursing education. That tradition of excellence continues with the transition of its curriculum for nurse practitioners from the master’s level to the doctoral level. Loyola is positioned to be the first university in Louisiana and among the first 90 in the country to offer the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program.

Health Care Debate Rages Across Louisiana

A face-off reminiscent of the famed Lincoln-Douglas debates has drawn crowds at cities across Louisiana this week, and promises to draw more attention as it comes to the Southern part of the state this weekend.
A Republican versus a Democrat, both critically interested in major health care reform, have jointly addressed forums across the state taking their message that the system is broken, but the President and his advisors need to be careful about how the fix the system. Each presents a series of ideas, and then asks the assembled public for their input to take back to Louisiana’s Congressional leadership.

Secretary says new VA hospital may break ground within a year

NEW ORLEANS – The nation’s top veterans affairs chief said on Monday the new VA Hospital is closer to reality than some people might think.
That’s despite the numerous delays and state struggles over who will control the adjoining replacement for Charity Hospital.
Eric Shinseki, the U.S. secretary of Veterans Affairs, spoke to Eyewitness News exclusively about the future of the massive downtown project.
