Tuesday, November 24, 2009

“novel” virus, but it is nothing new to school nurses in Minnesota who are
celebrating 100 years of professional service in the state. Ceremonies
scheduled for Friday, November 6th will honor the ten decades of valuable
contributions made by school nurses to the health of children and communities.
Never ones to miss an educational opportunity, planning committee members are
also offering an education session focusing on the worldwide influenza

Nurses aides deserve our thanks
Monday, November 23, 2009
Thanksgiving may be a good time to give medical thanks to a group of people who could be the hardest working, most under-valued bunch in the health care business: nurses aides or nursing assistants.
These folks do the bulk of the basic care for the basic functions (of lot of which malfunction) of hospital patients and nursing homes residents.
These people do the real work that gives patients and nursing home residents the best quality of life they can have, considering their conditions, disease, disabilities and inabilities. These workers turn people, clean them, hoist them, clean them again, feed them, clean them again, rub in moisturizer to relieve their well-worn skin and clean them some more.

Minn. Health Department promises improvements to flu nurse line
Friday, October 23, 2009
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - State officials are conceding Minnesota’s new nurse hot line was overwhelmed by flu patients on its first day, and they’re pledging to make improvements.
Assistant Health Commissioner Craig Acomb (AY’-kohmb) says operators took 2,100 calls from 11 a.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. today, and that doesn’t count those who got busy signals and gave up.
He says that call volume is “unprecedented” and no one expected that so many flu sufferers would call seeking help.
