Bill would further protect nurses
Thursday, March 04, 2010
Existing New Jersey law outlines the assault of an individual holding certain occupations, while in the performance of his or her official duties, as aggravated assault.
Examples of these occupations are law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians. However, an assault against a nurse or health care worker employed by a licensed healthcare facility while in the performance of his or her duties only constitutes simple assault. This presents a puzzling disparity; especially since nurses and other healthcare professionals are in a number of high intensity situations every day.

Become a licensed practical nurse at Lincoln Tech
Monday, February 01, 2010
The United States is on the verge of a serious shortage of registered nurses (R.N.) and licensed practical nurses (L.P.N.). The consequences of this are considerable, as it affects patients, healthcare facilities, and the entire society.
The expanding role of nursing in caring for an aging population — combined with an aging nursing workforce — presents us with the makings of a perfect storm. As the elderly population lives longer and nurses retire, who will care for the sick and elderly? This creates a critically important juncture for the nursing profession.

First in Nation Survey of Nurses Reveals New Jersey’s ‘Best Physicians’
Monday, January 25, 2010
In what is believed to be the first such comprehensive survey in the nation, nurses in New Jersey have selected who they think are the best physicians in their state. The results of the survey appear in New Jersey Monthly magazine which hit newsstands today. Called “Nurses’ Choice,” the initiative is the result of a unique collaboration between the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute and the Monmouth University Polling Institute with the cooperation of the Institute for Nursing, the Foundation of the New Jersey State Nurses Association.
“For years, organizations and magazines have been compiling lists of the so-called ‘top doctors’ or physicians practicing in New Jersey,” said David L. Knowlton, President and CEO of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute. “These lists are always put together by asking physicians who they think are best among their peers. But this year in New Jersey, for the very first time, nurses were asked to offer their views of who the best practicing physicians are in the state.”
