UT Medical Group Inc. will now offer a scholarship program for students in the neonatal nurse practitioner program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Nursing.

The program gives full tuition to candidates who agree to work at UTMG for at least three years after getting certified.

Tuition is provided for the master of science in maternal nursing with a specialty in neonatal nursing and in certain cases for the doctor of nursing practice in neonatal nursing.

Candidates must meet certain qualifications like being a professionally active neonatal registered nurse and maintaining a 3.0 or higher grade point average, among others.

UTMG is a private, non-profit group practice affiliated with the UTHSC College of Medicine faculty.

WCU nursing students win scholarships

Five William Carey University nursing students received $6,000 RN Teaching Stipends from the Mississippi Nursing Educators Foundation’s “Nurses Touch Lives” car tag program.

The students were among 5,498 nurses who paid $31 extra for their car tags.

Nurses receiving stipends from Carey are Mary Hays and Kelly Williamson of Hattiesburg, Jill Olsen of Gautier, Sandra Thomas of Chunky, and Andrea Walker of Gulfport.

According to the “Mississippi RN” newsletter Charlotte Cockrell, executive director of the MNF said, “All nurses are encouraged to purchase this special car tag and drive with pride as they support the efforts of their foundation.

Specialized car tags show support of your profession and also help multiply the financial support for student scholarships and stipends for RNs.”

To receive the stipend, nurses must be enrolled in an accredited nursing masters program in Mississippi with a focus in education, agree to teach in a school of nursing in Mississippi for one year following graduation, and have a nurse’s car tag on his or her vehicle.

Nurses follow an application process which includes references from professors and employers to be considered for the stipend and are chosen by the MNEF.
