Greenville News Editorial: Proceed with medical school expansion
Wednesday, January 05, 2011
South Carolina is a relatively poor state with a serious shortage of doctors that is only going to become more severe as the state’s population ages. This state needs more doctors, and a plan for the state to educate more of them should be applauded from the mountains to the coast.

McLeod Health gives $100,000 to Florence-Darlington Tech nursing program
Friday, April 02, 2010
McLeod Health contributed $100,000 to Florence-Darlington Technical College on Wednesday to help maintain and expand its nursing program.
This marks the seventh consecutive year McLeod has provided support directly to the nursing program at Florence-Darlington Tech.
Florence-Darlington Tech officials said the donation couldn’t have come at a better time as state appropriations for the school’s nursing program are half of what they were 10 years ago. And in 10 years, the school’s nursing program has doubled in size, making it especially important to have continued support from the community.

Coastal Carolina University scrubs for nursing degree
Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Coastal Carolina University is inching closer to adding a bachelor’s degree in nursing, which, if approved by the state, would pave the way for a bridge program with the nursing school at Horry-Georgetown Technical College.
Developing a program that would provide more trained health care workers would be a timely addition in this economy, said Sam McClary, an economist with the S.C. Employment Security Commission.
“Health care is one of the few areas where there is demand,” he said. “It’s only one of two areas that grew between 2008 and 2009 - the other is government.”
