Oklahoma hospitals seek money for staffing

The nursing shortage already is limiting care to Oklahoma patients and will grow worse without state funding to create more health care workers, hospital executives told lawmakers Tuesday.
Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada had to close admission to its intensive care unit for several days last month because it didn’t have enough nurses to staff a larger-than-normal influx of patients. That meant some had to seek beds in other hospitals, said Ron Webb, Valley View chief executive.
