Provena Health is a Catholic health system officially formed December 1, 1997 by uniting the health-related services of three Roman Catholic religious congregations. The congregations and organizations they sponsored are:

Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart sponsored Franciscan Sisters Health Care Corporation, Frankfort, Ill. Servants of the Holy Heart of Mary, Holy Family Province, USA sponsored ServantCor, Kankakee, Ill. Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Regional Community of Chicago sponsored, among others, Mercy Center for Health Care Services, McAuley Manor and Fox Knoll, all of Aurora, Ill. Provena Health is governed by a board of directors which draws both from the sponsoring congregations and the community. Management activities are carried out primarily by lay professionals.
