Walmart grant helps Red Cross train unemployed as nurse aides

Walmart has awarded the Hawaii State Chapter of the American Red Cross with a $25,000 grant to provide unemployed individuals statewide with scholarships for the Red Cross Nurse Aide Training Program and learn the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality health care as a certified nurse aide (CNA).

Coralie Chun Matayoshi, Chief Executive Officer of the Hawaii State Chapter, said, “Through Walmart’s generosity, a number of unemployed individuals in Hawaii will be given a chance to learn a skill through our Red Cross Nurse Aide Training Program that will not only lead to employment opportunities, but will also provide them with a life-long skill to care for family, friends and neighbors as they grow older and need assistance. With caregiving skills, more individuals are likely to respond when emergencies or other situations occur that need medical knowledge or assistance. They will be prepared to save the lives of others through their work in hospitals, nursing homes and private home environments.”
