Independent Scientist Awards

To provide financial support to scientists in health-related fields who have recently become independent investigators and are seeking funding for research.

Number Awarded: Varies each year.

Duration: 5 consecutive 12-month appointments.

Deadline: January, May, or September of each year.

Eligibility: This program is open to candidates who have a doctoral degree and peer-reviewed, independent research support at the time the award is made. They must be willing to spend at least 75% of full-time professional effort conducting research and research career development activities for the period of the award. Candidates must demonstrate that the requested period of research focus will foster their career as highly productive scientists in the field of research. Applications may be submitted on behalf of candidates by domestic, non-federal public or private organizations. Minorities and women are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates must be US citizens or permanent residents.
