Future Nursing Profession

I have had the dream and goal of becoming a nurse for quite some time now.
This aspiration not only comes from several other women in my family,
including my mother, who have professions in the medical field, but because
I have always noticed my strong points being in mathematics and the
sciences. My career goal for wanting to be a nurse really set in for me in
the summer of 2005. I was a junior volunteer at a local hospital, even
though I was able to be in the nursery where people are usually always
happy, the experience allowed me to see what being a nurse is all about. I
also have experience working as a Patient Care Assistant at that same
hospital where I got to see a little bit of a different side of nursing
where you can have up and downs. Even though you will be faced with
stressful situations as a nurse, you will develop your own way of handling
those situations and be able to go home at the end of the day feeling
accomplished and confident.
I do plan on furthering my education after receiving my Bachelor’s
Degree, whether I go the route to be a Nurse Practitioner or I decide to go
into anesthesia, I plan to be great at any career that I pursue in the
medical field and put all of my effort into reaching my goals. I believe
that continuing education will allow me have more options and find what
which position makes me the happiest. I will also have to consider how my
career will affect my family because I want them to also be able to reap the
benefits of my continued education and happiness.
It takes a special person with the right attitude and ambition to be in
health care. You do not just wake up one day and decide you want to be a
nurse, it is a calling. A nurse must be strong and courageous, but also
sensitive to be able to meet the needs of a patient, and I believe that I
have all of those qualities in me.
