My Future

“This is a death center,” I heard my brother scream. There was blood
flying everywhere and other nurses came running from every direction trying
to restrain my brother. The nurse was only trying to get a blood sample from
his arm. I would blame this scenario on my little brother; however, the
nurse was not very nice. It seemed like the older my brother and I got, the
more her kindness faded away. She did not wear that friendly smile I
remembered. So, I decided I was going to be a nurse. Except, I was going to
be the smile a kid remembers and sees 15 years from now. I want to be the
nurse that is still smiling after a twelve-hour shift. I want to be the
nurse who serves three generations of the same family. I want to set new
standards for nurses.
There are many reasons why I should be considered for this scholarship. I
believe in inspiring others. I would like to be someone else’s faith one
day. I believe I have the Communication skills that it takes to become a
very influential and effective nurse. I am already aware of medical
terminology and familiar with the hospital setting. I have many nurses in my
family and my cheerleading coach is a registered nurse. She teaches the
Health Science Technology program at my school. I am her aide during this
class so I learn a lot. I also completed two years of this program. I
rotated through many different departments like the Emergency room and
pediatrics. I am familiar with the importance of controlling nonverbal
behavior and having relationship skills when dealing with patients, other
nurses, doctors, and hospital administration. Nursing will be emotional. It
will test my patience and try my heart.
I plan to attend Stephen F. Austin State University. I am enrolled in the
Pre-Nursing program. I want contribute my qualities to the school and make
it better in any way possible. Dealing with my grandmother’s cancer and her
death has forced me to grow up faster and realize the harsh realities of
life. I am serious about my education and know what it takes. Also, being
the captain of my Varsity Cheerleading squad has shown me how important it
is to take pride in what I do in life and to do whatever it takes.
